We landed the FRONT PAGE of the local Southern California paper ‘the Daily Breeze’! Last Wednesday was Earth Day—and our client “The Green Hive” was featured on the front cover of the paper (56,000 subscribers).
We were so thrilled and grateful.

Why is it that I love everything French? French food, French language, French coffee, French fashion, French interiors, French architecture! Lenn and I believe Paris is the cultural capital of the world. Soon we’ll be traveling there for a little biz, and a little pleasure. No doubt, the trip will inspire us for months after we’ve returned. **i took this photo last year at a fabulous farmers market on rue cherche-midi

I’m finding this time in our business’ lifecycle to be very interesting and to a degree liberating. Our agency is less busy when compared to one year ago… but having said that, when biz is less hurried we have an opportunity to refresh our own brand and image. We’ve invested in our website, we’ve added this new blog, and we’re twittering like baby birds!
Grabiner/Hall was 24 years old last month -yes, Lenn and I were youngsters when we formed the company, and this is our third recession. One thing I know for sure, we will all survive, and we will all be stronger from the challenges we’ve faced in the past several months.
We appreciate every client and each project, and our creative and strategic consulting practice is on fire! I believe times like these can serve to rejuvenate every business, it’s all about ATTITUDE, and GRATITUDE.

Reason #3: New Ideas. New Approaches.
An outside agency works on solving marketing challenges for a variety of clients, across a number of industries. We have found that many times a solution that we have developed for a specific vertical industry (i.e. application development or manufacturing) can become an extremely effective tool, or approach, when modified for use in another vertical – such as entertainment or home fashion.
Because of this, the outside agency is constantly exposed to and creates new ways to promote its clients wares to the marketplace. New ideas are tested. Many work. Occasionally, some do not. But it is a learning experience, and that experience and the information uncovered quickly becomes knowledge that when applied to the next project, for the next client, came make the difference between a huge success and a minor victory.
This is just one of the many reasons why Grabiner/Hall has been able to consistently provide successful creative solutions to it’s clientele – regardless of the industry.

When you’re on the inside, you can’t see “from” the outside to SAVE YOUR LIFE. Trust me, when I have to write a press release for Grabiner/Hall it’s the old “cobblers’ kid with no shoes” story. I put it off because it’s nothing new to me. I know that’s probably hard to believe, because inside Grabiner/Hall we have lots of activity, but when you try to be objective about your own company - it’s just not possible. Time to get your kids some shoes.

There are a number of advantages to using an outside agency to assist in your marketing efforts. But, only if it’s the right agency.
Reason #1: A Fresh Perspective
One of the downfalls to producing marketing materials in-house is that the creative team is so close to the product that they occasionally have a problem “seeing the forest through the trees”. They can develop tunnel vision, focusing solely on one particular feature or benefit of their product or service, and ignoring others that may offer stronger, more effective messaging when developing marketing materials (i.e. direct mail, ads, and sales collateral).
An outside agency comes to the table with no preconceived ideas. If they do their job properly, they ask questions. Lots of them. And the data they collect and digest about their client, and the client’s product and/or service, can many times uncover critical information that may seem quite obvious to the outsider, yet went untapped by the in-house team. This is a more common occurrence than one might expect. And it’s not a matter of missing the boat. It is simply a matter of being too close to the subject. Not being able to take a few steps back and look at the big picture.
Grabiner/Hall looks at the big picture…with a fresh perspective.

Times like these mean every penny you spend on marketing will be worth 10x’s (or more) since many companies have cut back marketing expenditures. This means there’s less clutter out there… less competition. Budget for and spend on your brand, your outreach. You will be positioning your company to be top of the heap when this recession ends.

Getting inspired to write copy for your website, press release or brochure can be a turn-on if you look in the right direction. Typically, we start the process looking at what our clients have done in the past, and then understand where they want to go in the future. Then jump on the internet to search for relative experts, competitors, and news… then voila…the process has begun. We love it, and our clients love that we love it (and do it).

We’ve gotta turndown the negative news swirling around us. I don’t believe in sticking your head in the sand, but you still have to put food on the table, still need to send your kid to college, gotta have a dinner out now and then.
My advice: keep focused on the goal of succeeding, and continue taking the steps to do things that are productive. Use this time to evaluate everything, it is a time for catharsis … not fear (False Evidence Appearing Real)!
